In early 2024, billions of dollars in Ethereum flowed into a new protocol called EigenLayer. Investors rushed to get extra yield on their staked ether. How Double Staking Creates Unseen Vulnerabilities

If an AVS has a design flaw, attackers can exploit it. This does not just hurt the new project. It directly impacts the validators who are restaking their ETH to support it. If those validators get slashed due to an exploit on the AVS, the loss ripples back to the main Ethereum network. This creates an interconnected web of risk where the failure of a small, obscure project can cause massive financial damage to major Ethereum stakers.
The Danger of Complexity and Smart Contract Bugs
